Here’s something to crow about.
Community members will have a chance Sunday to bid on 20 fiberglass roosters decorated by local artists and sponsored by South County businesses and organizations.
The birds go up for bid at a free event at the South County Regional Center, 800 W. Branch St. in Arroyo Grande, celebrating the nonprofit Arroyo Grande Public Art program.
The roosters made their public debut Sept. 27 and 28 at the historic IOOF Hall in Arroyo Grande during the 76th annual Arroyo Grande Valley Harvest Festival. Festival-goers cast 604 ballots in five categories.
Marilyn Seim’s rooster was the overall favorite.
David Ekborn and Minas Kaloosian won the “creative” category, while Loraine Cote won the “beautiful” category, Lindsay McLellan’s rooster took the “artistic” title and the residents of the Arroyo Grande Care Center won the “whimsical” title.
Sunday’s event, which is sponsored by the Arroyo Grande and Grover Beach Chamber of Commerce, kicks off at 3 p.m. with finger food and live entertainment.
At 4 p.m., local auctioneer Pete Morales will auction off the roosters. Proceeds go to support public art in Arroyo Grande.
