Friday and Saturday, Aug. 23 and 24, the San Miguel Car Show Committee in association with the San Miguel Chamber of Commerce and the Volunteer Firefighters will host the third annual Rod Rally Car Show downtown. The show has grown every year, attracting car owners from both the Central Coast and the Central Valley.
There will be classic car parts swap meet, Friday Cruise Night and a showcase competition on Mission Street. Sponsors and vendors are welcome.

The annual Old Timers Picnic will be hosted by the San Miguel Lions Club on Aug. 25 from noon to 3 p.m. in the San Miguel Park on K Street.
A delicious plate of barbecue chicken, beans, salad and bread is only $10, and if you’re 80 years old or older, you eat for free!
There’s a prize for the oldest man and the oldest woman in attendance. The Pioneer Royalty will be there along with the oldtimers and their great stories.

The San Miguel Advisory Council will hold its meeting on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Community Building.
Reports are given from the Sheriff, the CHP, other San Miguel organizations, and liaison from the county Planning Department, Michael Conger, will be on hand to speak and take notes from community members. The public is encouraged to attend.
The San Miguel Volunteer Firefighters honored Volunteer Ken Smith at its last meeting for his 13 years of service to the community. He also drove a school bus for Lillian Larsen School for a few years.
The Smith family is moving to Utah.
