Community members who wish to comment on the performance of the Pismo Beach Police Department may do so at an upcoming public forum during its accreditation period. A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) will arrive Aug. 19 to examine all aspects of the department’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support services, according to a recent news release.
The department voluntarily participates in the accreditation, which takes place every three years, and is the only police department in the county that seeks regular CALEA accreditation.
Initial accreditation was achieved in 2007.
The public information session — just one part of the assessment — will take place at 7 p.m. Aug. 19 in the Pismo Beach City Council chambers at 760 Mattie Road.
All comments are limited to 10 minutes. Those who are unable to attend the session may call 773-7047 between 2 and 4 p.m. Aug. 20.
