The San Luis Obispo Mothers for Peace will host three speakers at an event marking the 68th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.
The talks will take place at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Steynberg Gallery, 1531 Monterey St., San Luis Obispo. The event is free but donations to Mothers for Peace are welcome.
Each of the speakers will present their vision for a nuclear-free future. They are:
• The Rev. Gyosen Sawada of the Nipponzan Myoho-ji Temple, who will have finished a peace walk from Vandenberg Air Force Base to Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant, where he will conduct a three-day fast.
• Chikako Nishiyama, a former government official from Fukushima Prefecture who survived the earthquake and tsunami there and became a vocal opponent of nuclear energy.
• Cecile Pineda, who will read from her book “Devil’s Tang: How I Learned the Fukushima Step by Step.”
