One word sums up today...frustration!
Last night we decided to take a more southerly route through Pennsylvania. We probably should have stayed with our original plan.
The day actually started out OK with some decent roads and shoulders. As the day progressed the traffic picked up and shoulders disappeared. Then it started sprinkling. We waited out the rain and started pushing again, only to be once again confronted with marginal (12") wide or no shoulders. Dylan and Marc did their best to find us other options, but there just aren't a whole lot of east bound back roads in this part of Pennsylvania.
I just want place these skaters in situations that were as dangerous as some of those we encountered today. I'm very proud of how the "kids" are handling everything the road and I throw at them.
Never miss a local story.
Had one funny encounter, as I was skating along on one of the few nice shoulders we had today, an RV pulls up next to me and asks if I knew where the local campground was...guess I look like a PA local!
We ended our day in Willamsport, PA, which is the home of the Little League World Series. After checking into the motel Cathy and I went for a push on the Susquehanna River Walk...gorgeous. It was great to spend some time skating with my wife.
We will be working on our route later tonight, hoping to find some good roads that will set us up for our our final push into New York City on Monday.
