Also known as "The Van Diaries." As I posted earlier we experienced ignition problems today, the van would not turn off. Made it into Beloit, WI and stopped at "The Shop." Scott, the owner began working on the van, he soon discovered that some type of actuator had broken. After a few calls he found out that the part we needed would not be available until tomorrow. After some discussion about other options, he said it would be cheaper to replace the whole steering column assembly. He found one that could be delivered this afternoon, and should be ready by tomorrow morning.
We are currently holed up at a motel in Beloit. Lucky for us that today was a day when we were not making any eastwards progress, only heading south to skirt below Chicago. Tomorrow morning we will drive to our Tuesday starting spot and at last begin pushing east.
Before the van broke we were on some sweet back roads, these are usually county roads with very little traffic, surrounded by beautiful farms, fields and the occasional lake. Personally, I really enjoy skating this type of roads.
Never miss a local story.
