Morro Bay resident Jack Smith is skateboarding across America to raise money for Alzheimer's research. Smith and his "A Push to Remember" team is hoping to raise $100,000 on their three-week trek from Oregon to New York. For the team's route and other information, visit http://www.apushtoremember.com/. Smith's updates on the trip will continue to be posted at http://sanluisobispo.com/.
We played hopscotch all over central Minnesota today. Our original route turned out to have way too much traffic and lots of rocks on the shoulder. So the the search began for skateable roads heading east. We finally ended up finding some great county back roads to skate. Nice surfaces, some shoulder, and best of all very little traffic.
In the afternoon we met up with Burt Beavers, our Minnesota connection and road guide. Just as he promised, the shoulders were golden asphalt and wide. He also hooked up some publicity for us in Lewiston. I originally met Burt at the NYC Adrenalina Marathon and have stayed in touch since. Burt is one of the major sponsors of the push, he has supported us through financial donation, purchase of the commemorative decks and covering our lodging and meals in Minnesota. Thank you Burt, your are one heck of a nice and generous person. Hope to see you in California soon.
Tomorrow, onward to Wisconsin. I'm heading over to Burt's room now to work on some route changes.
Never miss a local story.
Thanks to everyone for the incredible support.
