Today was our lucky day. Temperatures for our push from Mountain Home to Arco, Idaho through the Craters of the Moon National Monument were expected to be 100-plus. We awoke instead to overcast skies and cool weather.
Curt Chapman was still with us for the first half of the day as a guest skater. Pavement was bad to poor at the start of the day as we climbed some big mountains. Road conditions improved midday, and we even had some strong tailwind. Pushing through Craters of the Moon is always...out of this world! Had a bit of rain also.
Made it to Arco around 6 p.m., checked into the DK Motel and then chowed down at Pickles Place. I think I have eaten there on all four of my pushes across America.
Never miss a local story.
My teammates Melanie Leilani Castro, Marc Juvinall, Colleen Pelech and Dylan Smith continue to push hard. Dylan had some jerk scare him today by blaring on the horn and cutting in front of him. I just don't understand people like that.
Look for some photos and an interview with Curt to be posted by our video/photo guy, Dylan Baumann. I really want to thank Curt for coming to skate with us, he gave me a needed lift as we pushed and swapped stories and life experiences. He also fueled the team van twice and bought us dinner.
Tomorrow, we push to Ashton, Idaho.
