Morro Bay resident Jack Smith is skateboarding across America to raise money for Alzheimer's research. Smith and his "A Push to Remember" team is hoping to raise $100,000 on their three-week trek from Oregon to New York. Now in Idaho, smooth beginning, then every long distance skater's nightmare...fresh chip seal. Tried skating it for awhile. Then we actually ran into the crew laying it down on perfectly good black asphalt...what a shame. Drove for awhile, then it cleaned up and we were able to push...then the road got real nice, almost perfect for about 15 miles. Took a short break at a gas station and pushed onward up a major climb towards Mountain Home in 102 degree heat.
Just arrived at our motel. Showers, grub, rest. The team was tough today. Also had Curt Chapman skating with us today, great guy, great pusher. Filled up our van and bought us our daily supplies. Thanks Curt!
This is grueling...even relay style.
Never miss a local story.
On Thursday we push through Craters of the Moon and hope to make it to Arco, Idaho.
