Two new developments that could change the landscape of Paso Robles’ west side will be considered at the city’s Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
The first is a proposed residential and commercial project at a former Ford dealership site along Spring Street, while the second is the request to establish a temporary paid parking lot at the former Hayward Lumber site downtown.
The mixed-use project, brought by applicant Rick Jeffrey, calls for subdividing a vacant 2-acre site at 3328 Spring St. to develop 28 single-family homes, 14 residential condominium units and 23,550 square feet of commercial buildings, according to the application.
Further details on the project, called the Uptown Center, show plans for the commercial buildings to face Spring Street with the first floor to include a 10,000-square-foot grocery store and 3,200 square feet of additional commercial space. The second floor would include 10,300 square feet of office space. The residential units have three bedrooms, range in size from 1,465 to 1,605 square feet and include parking.

The proposal is in line with the city’s new vision for its west side that calls for creating a “vibrant, walkable, primarily residential neighborhood,” city staff said in a report to the commission.
Meanwhile, the parking lot at 10th and Pine streets would be developed on vacant land on an interim basis while applicant Brett Van Steenwyk works on a mixed-use redevelopment project for the site, according to the application. Details for the future mixed-use project were not disclosed.
The parking lot, designated for downtown business owners, employees, visitors and shoppers, would have 118 spaces and be regulated through an automated payment kiosk, the application says.
The cost and hours of operation are to be developed at a later date.
The Planning Commission is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Paso Robles City Hall/
