The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is still investigating the cause of Monday’s plane crash in San Luis Obispo, which killed the sole occupant of a small twin-engine plane.
Eliott Simpson, an investigator for the NTSB, told The Tribune the plane has been recovered and transported to Palmdale for two days of examination, and a report is expected in ten days.
It may be several weeks before the identity of the pilot can be positively confirmed using DNA testing, but friends and relatives have identified him as Scott Metzger, 44, of San Luis Obispo.
The plane had just taken off from San Luis Obispo airport when the pilot reported trouble, and soon crashed into a FedEx truck near the Promega Biosciences building on Granada Drive.
An autopsy was scheduled for this week.
