A preliminary investigation pointed to the cause as an equipment failure at a Morro Bay switch yard, which in turn led to the outage of two transmission lines in Morro Bay that feed power to a large part of the Central Coast, PG&E spokesman Blair Jones said.
The first reports of a power outage came in about 9:25 p.m. Sunday, he said.
By 12:30 a.m. the power had been restored to all but about 12,000 customers. All power was restored by about 1:45 a.m.
“We’re conducting a thorough investigation from top to bottom on what led to the outage,” Jones said.
It was too soon to know the potential cost of repairs, he said.
