Cal Poly experienced a power outage on Monday morning, which left the campus without power for more than an hour starting about 8:45 a.m. The campus remained open.
Cal Poly spokesman Matt Lazier said the university had power when he arrived at work about 8 a.m., adding that the power was restored shortly before 10 a.m.
The power outage happened after a safety device was activated as the campus was coming back online after Sunday night’s widespread outage, Lazier said.
The system incorrectly identified the power demand from the new Center for Science and Mathematics as an overload and tripped an electronically operated switch, which shut down campus power as a safety precaution.
