Effective Monday, Steve Reeder is the deputy chief for Cal Fire in San Luis Obispo County.
He will receive his badge in front of the Board of Supervisors at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Board of Supervisors chambers. He has been in the fire service for 29 years.
He began his career with Cal Fire in 1984 as a seasonal firefighter in Riverside County. Since then, he has worked his way through the ranks in a variety of assignments including on a ladder truck, hazardous material team, station captain, and a captain of a 17-person inmate fire crew.
In 2008, Reeder was promoted to battalion chief. His responsibilities included administration and operations of the city of Pismo Beach and Avila Beach consolidated fire protection, the agency said in a news release.

In April 2012, he was assigned to head the County Training Bureau. He responds to major emergencies statewide as a member of the agency’s Incident Management Team as the planning section chief.
Steve is married to his wife, Teri, of 20 years. She is a registered nurse at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital. They live in Morro Bay and enjoy sailing during their leisure time.
