UPDATE 11:37 a.m. The jack-knifed truck has been removed from the Santa Maria River bridge, and the northbound lanes of Highway 101 are once again open, Caltrans says. The Sig Alert that was issued for the accident was canceled at 11:25 a.m.
Original story: A jack-knifed big rig has closed the northbound lanes of Highway 101 at the Santa Maria River bridge, according to Caltrans. There is no estimate for the roadway's reopening.
The truck jack-knifed shortly after 7 a.m. CHP officers responding to the scene then determined that fuel was leaking from the truck, so a cleanup is under way.
Traffic is being diverted off Highway 101 in Santa Maria and is being re-routed north.
