On Saturday, Feb. 16, and again on Saturday, April 6, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, children ages 5 to 12 are invited to experience Adventures With Horses, a basic introductory class about understanding and caring for horses at Heaven Can Wait Equine Sanctuary for Healing and Love near San Miguel.
The class includes a full morning of activities including meeting, greeting and grooming horses and walking ponies. Children will learn basic equine manners, body language and social skills. There will be round pen activities to watch and join.
The class is sponsored by the city of Paso Robles library and recreation services. For more information and to sign up in advance, call Susan Schwartz at 368-5702. The charges are $25 for one child, $15 for a second and $10 for a third. A portion of the fees goes towards the facility.
Heaven Can Wait Sanctuary was founded several years ago by Schwartz to provide a safe and nurturing environment for rescued horses. Other animals on the ranch include donkeys, dogs, cats, goats, sheep and chickens. They are all treated with love and care to overcome the effects of abuse. Visitors are always welcome — they love company — but please call first. Donations and gifts help keep the doors open and the animals housed, fed and given veterinary care.
Never miss a local story.
More on San Miguel's history
The second installment of the history of San Miguel handwritten by Ella Adams is now available on http://www.discoversanmiguel.com/. Mrs. Adams chronicled local history. She and her husband were married at the Old Mission San Miguel and ranched near Parkfield for many years.
