The council is one of 11 advisory councils in San Luis Obispo County created in 1996 to advise planners and county supervisors on proposed plans and developments in their communities.
The SCAC covers the South County area from Los Berros Road south to the San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara county line. Maps and more information can be found at http://scac.ca.gov.
The SCAC includes two elected representatives each from seven geographic areas, and two special interest representatives for agriculture and public safety. Each director serves a two-year term.
A total of 10 seats are open in the seven geographic areas (including two seats open in areas 1 and 3), as well as the agriculture representative position.
Anyone interested in serving on the council must submit an application between now and March 4 to be placed on the ballot. A town hall meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 4 for candidates to give a brief presentation and answer questions from the public.
The town hall meeting will be held at the Nipomo Community Services District board room, 148 S. Wilson St.
The election will be held March 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the same location.
