The next meeting of the committee working to improve San Miguel will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Community Services District meeting room.
The group is working on ways to make the town more welcoming to both residents and visitors.
Committee members are studying several different aspects of the community, including historical significance and present and proposed upgrades and improvements.
Comments, ideas and suggestions are always most welcome from old and new members of the community and surrounding areas.
Notes from previous meetings can be found at http://www.discoversanmiguel.com. For more information, call Laverne Buckman at 467-3467.
Get ready for the Buzz Marathon
The 13th annual Buzz Marathon, hosted by Lillian Larsen School, will be run on Feb. 16 starting at 8:30 a.m. (walkers start at 6:30 a.m.) at Camp Roberts.
The event raises funds for athletic programs at San Miguel schools and has been progressively more successful.
It was founded by school athletic director/physical education instructor and 8th-grade teacher Eileen Rogers, otherwise known as “The Hornet Queen” after the school mascot.
The race also includes a half marathon, a 5K and a one-mile run for children younger than 12.
Information is available online at http://www.buzzmarathon.org or by calling the school at 467-3216, ext. 207.
The race is certified by USA Track and Field. The school appreciates the partnership of the National Guard and this year the courses are all new. Race headquarters will be in the camp gymnasium on New Mexico Street on the post.
The registration building is on the right after entering the front gate. Drivers must have current vehicle registration and insurance documents and adults must have identification.
