Members of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will install the Rev. Rod Richards as minister Sunday. The ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. at the congregation’s new church at 2201 Lawton Ave. in San Luis Obispo.
The church building will be formally dedicated during the ceremony as well.
The 190-member congregation selected Richards earlier this year. The 52-year-old minister relocated from Arizona, where he served nine years as minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Southeastern Arizona in Sierra Vista.
He is a graduate of United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities in Minnesota.
The Rev. Wendy Williams, senior minister at Jefferson United Church in Golden, Colo., will be the main speaker. Music written specifically for this occasion by James Riccardo, concertmaster for the Symphony of the Vines, will have its premiere at the ceremony.
“With a new building and a new minister,” Richards said, “this congregation is eager to claim its identity as an active force for compassion within this community and to provide a genuine welcome to all who are seeking a liberal religious community.”
The public is invited. For information, call 439-0188 or visit http://www.uuslo.org.
