Construction of the $170 million Los Osos sewer project has begun in earnest.
Work crews have begun the lengthiest and most disruptive phase of work — installing collection lines in streets. Workers are shown putting in temporary metal retaining walls in preparation for collection lines being installed beneath Los Osos Valley Road.
Construction contractors have a storage yard visible along South Bay Boulevard across from Los Osos Middle School, where segments of large-diameter collection line and other materials are stockpiled until needed.
Installation of the collection system is scheduled to conclude in February 2015. Construction of the wastewater treatment plant is scheduled to be completed later in 2015, and then about 4,700 businesses and residences will be required to hook up.
The cost to a typical homeowner in Los Osos is estimated at $140 a month. Daily construction updates are available at www.diglososos.com or by calling 546-2802.
