A Paso Robles teen will attend the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., this fall, the office of Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield, announced.
Edward “Camdon” Muncy, 18, attends Templeton High School. He is a two-sport athlete in cross country and tennis. He is involved in Civil Air Patrol and choir, and he is a senior class representative.
Muncy is one of eight McCarthy nominees to be selected for the U.S. Service Academies. The other seven are from the Central Valley. Part of McCarthy’s congressional district extends into San Luis Obispo County.
McCarthy said special recognition went to Austin Daniel Wiemann, 17, of Atascadero, who attends North County Christian School in Atascadero.
Wiemann received a presidential nomination to both the U.S. Naval and Air Force academies and has accepted the appointment to the Naval Academy.
Wiemann follows his brother, John Paul, who received a presidential appointment last year to the Naval Academy. McCarthy will be recognizing the students at a reception at his Bakersfield office.
