UPDATE 3:40 p.m. Monday: The Arroyo Grande woman killed in a two-car crash Friday night has been identified as Anna Katherine Beckner, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.
Original story: An Arroyo Grande woman was killed in a two-car crash late Friday along Highway 166 about 50 miles east of Nipomo near the Santa Barbara County town of New Cuyama, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 40-year-old woman — whose name was not disclosed pending notification of her family — died of blunt force trauma, according to a Saturday press release from the CHP’s Santa Maria barracks.
She was driving west in a 1992 Pontiac about 9:30 p.m. when she went into the eastbound lane, the CHP said.
Never miss a local story.
Jagjit Singh, 35, of Fresno, driving east in a 2007 Kenworth semi truck, told the CHP that he saw her car’s interior light on and that the woman’s head appeared to be looking down.
Though he slammed his brakes and turned to the left to try to avoid the Pontiac, they crashed head-on, according to the CHP.
The woman died at the scene. Singh wasn’t hurt, the CHP said.
The crash caused the shutdown of 166 for about 6 hours, according the CHP.
