Fracking, a controversial process designed to extract underground oil and gas deposits, will be explained at Wednesday’s meeting of the South County Democratic Club.
David Akey, who retired in 2004 from his position with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will speak on the process. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at 12th and Trouville streets in Grover Beach.
Akey will explain what fracking is, how it is done and environmental concerns about the chemicals used. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biological science, and a master’s degree and a doctorate in entomology. Akey is a member of the San Luis Obispo County Democratic central committee.
