Original story: A Paso Robles woman was killed when her vehicle hit a tree near San Miguel overnight Sunday, according to the CHP.
About 2:15 a.m., she lost control of her vehicle after a sweeping right curve on northbound River Road, south of Mission Lane, according to a CHP news release.
Her vehicle — described only as a 1999 Ford — left the roadway at its east edge and then struck a large mature tree broadside. She was presumably killed by the impact, the CHP said.
Medics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
She had not been wearing a seat belt, according to the CHP news release.
Investigators don’t yet know why her vehicle had traveled into the opposing southbound lane of River Road, which led to her turning sharply to the right before losing control.
The woman was described only as a 21-year-old from Paso Robles.
A San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department watch commander said Sunday that his agency was awaiting next of kin to be notified.
