UPDATE 11:30 a.m. Friday: A 40-year-old man from Hemet is the person who died while bodyboarding in Cayucos on Thursday, according to the Sheriff's Department.
Jonathan Dale Lacquement died after being rescued from the ocean near the 3200 block of Studio Drive in Cayucos, said Rob Bryn, the department’s spokesman.
Bryn said that Lacquement was vacationing with his wife, who had been watching him bodyboard. After not being able to see him for about five minutes, she called 911.
A sheriff’s deputy arrived, and a surfer nearby suited up and paddled out to look for the man.
The surfer spotted Lacquement in the water around the time the U.S. Coast Guard arrived. Lacquement had a weak pulse, but attempts to resuscitate him and treatment at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center couldn’t save his life, Bryn said.
