The Habit Burger Grill opened this week in San Luis Obispo’s Wineman Hotel building at 839 Higuera St.
Habit district manager Jay Lopez was pleased with the opening, which saw a busier dinner hour than expected. Overall, 700 customers were served at the casual diner during Wednesday’s opening.
“There are lots of burger places around,” Lopez said, “but our price point is a little lower.”
At $2.95, the restaurant claims its signature “charburger” is heartier and tastier than a typical fast-food burger but less expensive than gourmet burgers. The restaurant also features tri-tip, salads, sweet potato fries, sandwiches and milk shakes.
One customer from Arroyo Grande said he’s driven to Santa Barbara, the Habit’s original location, for the burger. So, he’s thrilled it has come to San Luis Obispo. Other customers on a bustling lunch shift liked the prices.
The Irvine-based company currently has 38 locations, mostly in California.
Habit Restaurants LLC is majority owned by an East Coast private equity firm, which purchased the company from brothers Brent and Bruce Reichard in 2007.
The San Luis Obispo location has more than 35 employees.
