The Nacimiento Water Project was recognized as the 2011 Outstanding Engineering Project at a June 16 meeting of the American Society of Civil Engineers, San Luis Obispo branch.
The $176 million project is the largest public works undertaking in county history, according to branch president Rob Down. It can deliver up to 15,750 acre-feet annually to participants, Down said.
Project manager John Hollenbeck praised the cities of Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo, as well as the Templeton Community Services District and the Atascadero Mutual Water Company, for their cooperation and foresight.
Hollenbeck also took home an individual award — Outstanding Civil Engineer in Government.
Never miss a local story.
County Public Works Director Paavo Ogren, also praising the participants, said the experience the county gained from working on the Nacimiento project “will benefit the county as we begin another mega public works project — the Los Osos sewer project.”
