A 20-year-old Nipomo man pleaded not guilty in court today to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and drunk driving charges in the crash that killed a British cyclist near Oceano on Saturday.
Aaron Richard Ceja entered his plea in Judge Michael Barton’s court. Ceja is accused of causing the crash that killed 26-year-old David Williams of London.
It's believed Williams was on a charity ride from Los Angeles to New York for Find Your Feet, a UK-based charity aimed at decreasing poverty. Williams was on his way to San Francisco.
He did a similar ride in 2008 from London to Istanbul for the same charity. Williams died at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Ceja remained listed in custody at the San Luis Obispo County Jail as of late Wednesday, where he is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
He is scheduled to appear next in court on July 5 for a hearing in which he’s expected to argue bail reduction. He has a pre-preliminary hearing set for July 11.
