Former Mission Prep star Jordan Hasay certainly hasn't had the NCAA Track and Field Championships efforts she was hoping for at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
After fading from the lead to finish in fourth place in Friday's 5,000 final, Hasay led this morning's 1,500 final on the final lap but faltered badly over the final 250 meters to finish in eighth place in 4 minutes, 17.67.
Hasay was trying to become the first woman in NCAA history to win the 1,500 and 5,000 at the same meet. Instead, that accomplishment was garnered by Villanova's Sheila Reid, who took the 1,500 in 4:14.57 after winning Friday's 5,000.
Hasay, who was third in the NCAA 1,500 last season, wasn't even the top runner on her own Oregon team today as teammate Becca Friday finished fifth in 4:16.76.
Never miss a local story.
Oregon led the team race with 38 points after the 1,500 but with the Ducks not getting the teams they expected, the team race certainly became much tighter between Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and LSU.
Check back to sanluisobispo.com later today to see how Oregon finishes in the women's team race.
