A Central Coast Congresswoman is asking her constituents, including those in San Luis Obispo County, to tell her how they would reduce the deficit and give them a chance to step into he shoes of a Member of Congress.
Rep, Lois Capps (D-Santa Barbara) will host an interactive workshop on deficit reduction June 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the American Red Cross Facility, 3030 Skyway Drive, Santa Maria.
In a press release, Capps wrote that the workshop will “give participants the chance to put themselves in the shoes of a member of Congress as they work together in small groups to find consensus on addressing the federal government’s budget issues.”
“Just as in Congress,” she wrote, “the majority rules, and each group will not be able to either raise revenue or cut spending unless a majority of the group agrees on the specific proposal.”
Capps will check in with groups throughout the meeting to see how each comes to its decisions. At the end of the meeting, each group will be given a chance to present their plan.
Capps’ office will tabulate the results of the workshops.
Attendance is limited and RSVPs are required. RSVP, constituents can fill out this online form.
