Arroyo Grande police closed a section of James Way and called in the San Luis Obispo County bomb task force Friday morning after a motorist reported seeing a suspicious object.
It turned out to be a plastic bottle that contained oil and gasoline. It was not built as an incendiary explosive device and did not have an ignition system, according to a news release from the Arroyo Grande Police Department.
“It appeared that the bottle was being used to store the oil and gasoline mixture before it was discarded along the roadway,” police wrote.
Five Cities Fire Authority personnel removed the bottle and its contents for proper disposal.

Police received the call about the suspicious object at 7:35 a.m. and closed James Way between Equestrian Way and Meadow Way to vehicular and pedestrian traffic as a precautionary measure.
They reopened the roadway and sidewalk at 10 a.m.
