More than 250 wheelgun shooters from around the world will compete in the Smith & Wesson International Revolver championship Thursday through Sunday at the Hogue Action Pistol Range, 3270 Gilardi Road in San Luis Obispo.
Shooters will compete for cash and prizes as well as a championship title in the competition, in open, limited and classic divisions. Honors also will be awarded in the categories of high lady, senior, super senior, junior, law enforcement and international shooter.
The event is sponsored by the International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts, an organization dedicated to promoting and organizing revolver-only shooting competitions.
The 20th annual championship is expected to draw shooters from 26 states, some as far away as New England, and attract entrants from Australia, France and Italy.
Never miss a local story.
Thirty-two shooters are from the Santa Barbara area, and 118 from California.
At least two entrants are from San Luis Obispo County: Lisa Farrell of Los Osos, who has won the women’s limited title seven times and recently won the limited title at the ICORE Southwest Regional; and Neil Hogue of Paso Robles, who finished second overall in 2010 with his open division revolver.
Competition begins at 8 a.m. daily.
