As of 11 a.m. Thursday, there is an evacuation order in effect for the State Park maintenance facility where the ammonia leak was detected, along with an evacuation warning for the County Mobile Home Park and residences on state property surrounding the facility.
A hazmat team has been called out to the State Parks maintenance building in Oceano to contain an ammonia leak.
State Parks workers reported smelling the strong smell of ammonia behind their building at 928 Pacific Blvd. at 8 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release from Cal Fire. Responding engine crews found a 4- to 5-foot pressurized cylinder that had an ammonia leak.
The hazmat team was responding as of 9 a.m.
