Paso Robles fire investigators are calling a May 12 apartment fire that displaced 22 people suspicious, and are asking the public’s help in finding the arsonist.
Six apartment units in two buildings at 3418 and 3422 Park St. were involved in the blaze, which caused more than $695,000 in damage to the structures and contents.
Forty-one firefighters from Paso Robles and surrounding communities fought the blaze.
Tenants are prohibited from re-entering the apartments until substantial repairs have been completed. The American Red Cross is helping the families.
Fire investigators interviewed several witnesses and determined that the fire began behind a Dumpster that was behind one of the apartment buildings.
Investigators ruled out most accidental causes, and called the blaze suspicious.
They are asking people who witnessed the fire’s early stages, saw people in the area, or know other things germane to the investigation to contact them. Witnesses may be eligible for a cash reward of as much as $1,000.
Police are asking those with information to call the department at 237-6464. Those seeking anonymity can contact Crime Stoppers at 549-STOP or text information from a cell phone to SLOTIPS.
