Morro Bay police say they arrested a Central Valley man on suspicion of rape Wednesday after a visitor from Georgia reported she was sexually assaulted at a hotel.
Paul Lee Stancliff, 40, of the small town of Posey north of Bakersfield near Sequoia National Park, was arrested on suspicion of rape, according to the Morro Bay Police Department.
At 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, Morro Bay police received a 911 call from the Georgia woman.Investigators learned that Stancliff and the woman met at a “local establishment” before going to the hotel, police said.
Police would not disclose the name of the hotel where the incident was reported, only stating it was “a Morro Bay area hotel.”
They cited “the sensitive nature of this investigation, and to preserve the confidentiality of the victim,” they would not disclose any other details such as the circumstances of the alleged crime or where it took place.
