UPDATE 6:30 p.m.: The aircraft is registered to Russel Green at a Los Osos address, according to the FAA. County voter records list him as 63. The plane is listed as an experimental, amateur-built aircraft manufactured in 1987.
A small plane broke its landing gear after veering off the runway at Oceano County Airport Saturday morning, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department.
The pilot told airport officials that after he landed just before 11 a.m., his single-engine plane had brake problems.
Never miss a local story.
That caused the plane to swerve and veer left, and off of the runway and into a dirt and grass field, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The plane’s pilot and sole occupant, a 63-year-old Los Osos man, was not hurt, and the plane sustained only minor damage.
The Sheriff’s Department is not disclosing the pilot’s name.
Officials said the accident has been reported to the Federal Aviation Administration and that the National Transportation Safety Board is already investigating it
