The National Weather Service has issued a small-craft advisory that’s in effect through 6 p.m. Sunday, but warns of possible gale winds starting that night.
The advisory covers the waters westward from Point Piedras Blancas north of San Simeon to Point Arguello in northern Santa Barbara County.
Forecasters expect winds of 20 to 30 knots through today, diminishing to 15 to 20 knots late in the night.
But they expect northwest winds to increase to 20 to 25 knots on Sunday afternoon, with possible frequent gusts to 35 knots at night.
The Weather Service has also issued a gale watch that will be in effect from Sunday evening through Monday morning.
A gale watch is issued when the possibility of gale-force winds of 24 to 47 knots has significantly increased, according to the agency.
Forecasters intend merely to provide more lead time to boaters who might consider altering their plans.
