The Cambria Community Services District office will be open to serve the public more hours each week, thanks to one of Jerry Gruber’s first acts as the district’s interim general manager.
Gruber said, “These expanded hours will hopefully allow our customers the ability to not only stop by and pay their bills, but (also) help them with any questions, comments or concerns they may have.”
Starting Monday, the office at 1316 Tamson Drive will open an hour earlier, at 9 a.m., and close an hour later, at 4 p.m.
The office limited hours to 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday since July 2008 because of staff reductions, according to former General Manager Tammy Rudock. In addition, incoming phone calls on Mondays were handled by an answering service. Services district staff will now answer phones on Mondays. An answering service will continue to take calls to 927-6223 outside office hours.

The office will still be closed Fridays for now.
Rudock was fired by the district April 29, and Utilities Manager Gruber was named interim general manager. He is expected to become the new general manager.
The service hours expansion “shows he understands that the board and staff are accountable to the community,” commented Elizabeth Bettenhausen, a district watchdog. “I think he’s really making an attempt to make the board and the staff agents of the people, not opponents of the people. This is a good step in that direction.”
