Arroyo Grande officials dedicated the newly renamed Centennial Park in the city’s Village on Saturday.
Located in front of the Swinging Bridge at Short Street and Olohan Alley, the area known as Village Green Park was renamed to honor the city’s centennial.
It’s been upgraded with improvements made to the gazebo, an extension of a creek-side walk, a commemorative plaque, a spot for a centennial time capsule and an area to recognize project sponsors.
Of the $238,394 project cost, $70,000 was covered by a state grant, $50,000 comes from donations and the rest will be paid for with a tax on new development that goes to park improvements.
Never miss a local story.
At the afternoon ceremony, The Central Coast Celebration Chorus performed the official centennial song, “Arroyo Grande — The Place To Be,” composed by local songwriter and lyricist Ann Marie Kurrasch in honor of the city’s 100th anniversary.
