The Atascadero Fire Department announced a number of fire-safety reminders on Thursday regarding upcoming deadlines and resources in managing yard debris.
Sunday is the last day Atascadero residents can burn yard waste, as the 2011 burning season comes to a close.
“The recent rains and rapid increase in temperatures and windy conditions have caused the taller than normal grasses to dry out quickly, causing an increased fire danger,” Atascadero Fire Chief Kurt Stone said.
The city encourages residents to use the Atascadero Waste Alternatives green waste recycling program. For information on pick-up days, call 466-3636.
June 1 is the deadline for property owners to remove all fire hazards, including weeds and other combustible debris such as dead trees and brush from their properties.
On Saturday, the Waste Alternatives division and the city will host a bi-annual citywide cleanup event at the Atascadero Lake Park. A city chipper will be available for residents to bring branches needing to be broken down.
