‘Let the people vote!” cheered more than 100 people gathered at the San Luis Obispo County Government Center on Tuesday. The demonstrators wore red in support of Wisconsin’s labor unions following the defeat of collective bargaining in that state.
Many clustered to write letters to state Sen. Sam Blakeslee and Assemblyman Katcho Achadjian, urging the Republican legislators to place Gov. Jerry Brown’s tax extension plan on the ballot. If approved, Brown says it will prevent deeper cuts to schools and social services.
“This is not a partisan issue — it’s about taking care of each other,” said rally organizer Andrea Devitt of San Luis Obispo.
