Thirty-three teams with about 300 students competed Saturday in the regional finals of the Destination ImagiNation competition.
Destination ImagiNation gives students a chance to foster creativity in a competitive environment, said Judkins Middle School teacher Mike Liebo.
“The problems change every year,” he wrote in an e-mail. “Students could complete in a challenge to build a towering structure create a five-minute skit about a mission involving a mythical creature, or showcase a challenge that benefits the local community.”
The winning teams from Saturday’s competition at the Clark Center in Arroyo Grande will go on to state finals in April. Global finals will be held at the University of Tennessee in May.
The Lucia Mar district has in the past produced four teams, two from Arroyo Grande High School and two from Judkins Middle School, that won the global competition, Liebo said.
