Atascadero police are seeking the public’s help to find a man who robbed a gas station attendant at gunpoint.
At approximately 1:07 a.m. Tuesday, a robbery occurred at a Shell gas station located at 8000 Morro Road.
The store clerk told officers that a man entered the business and immediately pointed what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun at the clerk and demanded money from the register. After getting approximately $250 in cash, the suspect ran westbound on Morro Road.
Responding officers immediately conducted a search of the surrounding area, and the Atascadero Police Department’s K9 unit tracked the suspect to the area of Santa Ynez Avenue and Morro Road before losing the suspect’s scent.
According to the clerk and video obtained at the business, the suspect was a Hispanic male in his late teens to early 20s, standing 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall with a thin build and weighing between 125 to 150 pounds. He was wearing dark blue jeans and a gray hooded sweatshirt turned inside out to expose the black fleece-like lining. The suspect had the hood up, covering his head and covered his face with a white bandanna with black graphics. The suspect was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun described as possibly a Glock because of its box like shape.
The Crime Stoppers organization says it is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the robber’s capture.
The Atascadero Police Department is asking that anyone with information regarding this crime or who recognizes the suspect in the photographs or video contact Detective Nick Coughlin of the Atascadero Police Department at 461-5051 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
