A Los Osos man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of firing a shotgun at a group of children.
Just before 3 p.m., someone called 911 to say that a resident of the 500 block of Skyline Drive shot at a group of kids. The children range in age from 4 to 14.
Members of the group said they were playing in the vicinity of the man’s residence when they moved a log.The man, identified as Dan Richard Milligan, 59, angrily confronted the group, threatened to kill them, brandished a shotgun and shot the weapon in their direction, according to police.
No one was injured in the incident, but the children ran from the area and immediately reported the incident to authorities.
Deputies went to Milligan’s house and interviewed him. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, terrorist threats and brandishing a firearm. He was taken to County Jail, where bail was set at $50,000.
Some of the neighbors in the area Sunday said they hadn’t seen or heard what happened at the time of the alleged shooting incident. Some said that hearing shots isn’t unusual in the area because it’s duck hunting season across the bay.
The 500 block of Skyline Drive leads to a dead end that borders a grass field. A hiking trail leads to open space, which several Los Osos residents were using Monday.
