One lane of Highway 1 north of Ragged Point reopened about 1:20 p.m. All occupants of the vehicles in the accident declined to take an ambulance to the hospital.
It’s not known if any of the riders were in the accident area at the time, but about 250 bicyclists are scheduled to be making their way from Big Sur to San Simeon today as part of an eight-day Arthritis Foundation ride from San Francisco to Santa Monica.
Highway 1 is closed about 8 miles north of Ragged Point, at the south end of Big Sur, after a semi-truck and Jeep Cherokee collided at about 12:32 p.m. today, according to CHP reports.
There were two passengers in each vehicle, according to the report, with one of the four suffering some sort of injury.
CHP has requested that Caltrans post a “roadway blocked” sign.
Bicycles in the area may have been a factor in the accident, according to the preliminary report.
The accident is two miles north of the Monterey-San Luis Obispo county line, just south of Salmon Creek and about an hour’s drive north of Cambria.
