Update at 6:49: Officials have called off the search for the body. State parks rangers will patrol the area tonight and again Sunday morning to see if the tide might bring the body ashore.
Initial post: Sheriff's deputies and search-and-rescue personnel from San Luis Obispo County are at Guadalupe Beach looking for a body that was reported to have washed ashore there.
Sgt. Rex Reece of the SLO County Sheriff's Department said that officials in Santa Barbara County were called at 10:15 this morning by two fishermen who had been casting their lines into the surf about 2.5 miles north of the West Main Street access point to Guadalupe Beach.
The fishermen said they had seen what appeared to be a body on the sand.
Since the sighting was technically in San Luis Obispo County, Reece said deputies from his department were summoned and a search was started.
The investigation continues this afternoon, with personnel from CalFire helping out, and the CHP helicopter from SLO County also joining in.
So far, no body has been found, Reece said.
