Cal Fire Chief Matt Jenkins, who has served as the chief for San Luis Obispo County as well as the communities of Pismo Beach, Los Osos and Avila Beach, will retire on Dec. 2, fire officials said Monday.
Jenkins started his fire service career in the county 33 years ago. He spent 19 years working in Cameron Park, in the Sacramento area, before returning 13 years ago to San Luis Obispo County.
In a news release, Jenkins said he is most proud of the cooperative relationship he has with the communities Cal Fire serves.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the fire chief during the past five years,” he said. “I am very proud of the men and women of Cal Fire/County Fire and assure the public that your fire department remains strong, prepared, and committed to public service.”

Deputy Chief Robert Lewin will serve as the acting fire chief until a new chief is appointed.
