The USGS is now reporting the earthquake as a magnitude 3.8.
An earthquake measured at magnitude 4.0 rattled northern San Luis Obispo County at 10:20 a.m., the USGS reports.
The temblor was centered 12 miles north of San Simeon, in the same neighborhood where the 2003 San Simeon Earthquake was centered and occasional aftershocks have been felt since. Today’s quake was about 3 miles underground, the USGS said.
The quake rattled windows and startled some Cambria residents, but no damages were immediately reported.
