A public information session is scheduled for Monday as part of an on-site assessment for the Pismo Beach Police Department to retain national accreditation.
Community members and law enforcement personnel can offer comments Monday at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers at 760 Mattie Road.
The accreditation program is administered by the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies and requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art professional standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.
The department in 2007 became the fifth municipal police department in California to attain national accreditation — recognition, officials say, that is a “stamp of approval” certifying law enforcement professional excellence.
Comments will be limited to 10 minutes and must address the Police Department’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. A copy of the standards manual is available at the Police Department; to view it, call Accreditation Manager Sherry Lange at 773-7018.
Public comment may also be made by phone from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday by calling 773-7047. Written comments can be sent to CALEA, 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Ste 320, Gainesville, VA 20155.More information is also available at www.calea.org/content/law-enforcement-accreditation.
