The Five Cities Dog Park Association and the Arroyo Grande Parks and Recreation Department are co-sponsoring a fundraising event, Puttin’ on the Dog, on Aug. 21 to benefit the Elm Street off-leash dog park in Arroyo Grande.
Anyone interested in serving as a vendor or sponsor can learn more at www.fivecitiesdogpark.org. Funds raised at the event will pay for ongoing park expenses.
The association raised $50,000 to install concrete walkways, fencing and Mutt Mitt dispensers to clean up pet waste at the dog park, which opened May 2009. The association spends about $400 a month to stock the dispensers.
Never miss a local story.
The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and feature a pooch parade at 9:15 a.m., ending with a Best in Show award at 1 p.m. It will also include four dog contests, at least 20 dog-related vendors, dog agility and dog first-aid demonstrations, dog adoptions, low-cost vaccinations and micro-chipping, a bounce house, a raffle and a barbecue lunch.
Pre-registration is encouraged for the dog contests — though people can sign up at the event — and so is advance purchase of tickets for the raffle and barbecue; costs range from $3 for each contest to $10 for raffle tickets and the barbecue.
